Energy
Radiator
Thermostats enable the guests to control the temperature
of the room & allow you to switch off the heating in
unoccupied rooms.
Insulation
and double glazing help prevent heat losses.
Energy
efficient lighting is a great way to save money, there
are many sizes of bulbs manufactured; even the 'candle'
shaped decorative bulbs.
Daylight
sensors to activate external lights, and movement sensors
for rooms, which are not used continuously, prevent
lights being left on unnecessarily.
Remember
to switch off lights and appliances when not in use
- even T.V.s left in standby mode consume electricity.
Employ
timers for lighting and heating systems to prevent energy
being wasted unnecessarily.
Ensure
doors and windows are closed if heating or air conditioning
is on to allow you to make the most of your air conditioning
or heating systems.
Water
Why
not try a scheme where the guests can choose if they
want to re-use their towels - for environmental reasons,
saves detergents as well as water and energy.
Dual
flush toilets or low capacity cisterns prevent wastage
of water used for flushing
Spray
taps and valves for shower heads are available to reduce
water use
Recover
waste water and re-use if for the garden (e.g. laundry
rinse water, kitchen waste water)
Routinely
monitor taps, effluent and ventilation systems to enable
you to identify and react quickly to problems
Waste
Try
setting up a recycling scheme, paper and glass may be
a good place to start, costs can be reduced through
decreased general waste charges in many cases, or you
may get some income from the recycled material.
Purchasing
Source
local and environmentally favourable consumables
Have
you tried out products made from recycled materials,
there are many brands on the market, for example toilet
rolls, paper hand towels,
Buy
fresh locally produced goods and encourage your suppliers
to do the same.
Promotion
Promote
the environment to staff, guests, customers and the
local community
